Talent abounds in this remarkable Texas blues band.  The guitarist and lead vocalist is Jim "Blind Lemon Pie" Cobb-  spanning the greats like T-Bone Walker, Jimmy Witherspoon and Freddie King in guitar and vocal prowess.  Next up is Rick "SaxMan" Sims, who plays with the color and excitement of King Curtis and Boots Randolph, and who tends to leap off the stage into the crowd, serenading patrons individually.  Rodney "Gizmo" Beal, on the bass guitar, is steady as a rock like Willie Dixon, and adds his own sweet vocal harmonies and the occasional lead vocal himself.  Sylvia Carrell sprinkles percussion throughout, and sings from the heart- growling like KoKo Taylor and emoting like Etta James, spanning a wide range of styles before the night’s over.  All the band members are lucky enough to work within the parameters of the solid grooves and superb timing of Val Nail on drums- a young man who’s a ‘‘show” all by himself.

You can't get enough of this group.  That's probably why they won The Texarkana Blues Society sponsorship to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis coming up January 31st  through February 2nd

Come see ‘em; you won’t be disappointed.

Catch Diddley Squat in Their Home Area!

This Friday, 9/05/08, they’re playing Rick’s on the Square in Tyler, Tx, 8-12MN.  They usually have them on their patio stage, so I hope the weather’s better by then!   Come out and enjoy a nice meal, then kick back and enjoy the music.            www.rix.com  They return to Rick’s on the Square on Friday Sept. 26th also!

Saturday, 9/06/08, they’re out in Uncertain, Tx at the Uncertain Tavern, 9PM-1AM.  It’s a small place with pool tables and shuffleboard, and DOES have an actual dance floor! There’s a good pizza place just down the road, and if you want to bring one in with you, that’s a pretty common occurrence.

As far as they know, they’re still on for The River Shack in Jefferson, LA. on Friday 09/12/08.  This is on the outskirts of New Orleans, so they don’t know if everything’s intact from the storm yet.  If so, they’re scheduled to start at 9:30PM.

Saturday, 9/13/08, we’re at Teddy’s Juke Joint, in Zachary, just outside Baton Rouge, La, with a 9PM start time.  It’s one of the last real jukes left; what a cool place and what WONDERFUL folks!  They’ve heard that everthing’s fine there, so look out Mr. Teddy, Ms Nancy, Ryan and Shawn- can’t wait to see you all again!

On Friday, 9/19/08, they’re doing the Pittsburg Chickfest, Pittsburg, TX., at 7PM, a real old-fashioned family festival, with a barbeque cookoff and such.  Here’s a paraphrased article about the event (originally scribed by Ruth McAnally):

Every year here in Pittsburg, Tx,  we have a festival around mid-September that is called the Chick Fest-  since this is where Bo Pilgrim lives,  and there’s a lot of chicken farms around here.  The event is held on Friday and Saturday nights in downtown Pittsburg.  They block off the streets of the town with construction signs, set up a big stage, and normally have a local band playing.  On Friday and Saturday nights they have a street dance which goes on until midnight, and there’s a parade on Saturday morning. There are all kinds of vendor booths and games to play, and little kids’ rides have even been added.  Some of the folks just hang out with their friends, and walk around and taste the different foods, but it’s a nice place to have fun with your family...

Hey- downtown Pittsburg is a fun place for you antique shoppers too!

Hope to see you at some of the shows.  They don’t get to play this area very often, and have lots of long-distance gigs coming up for some time afterward.
